Drought Data Dashboard

Drought Data Dashboard

Interactive Drought Dashboard

Overview

The Interactive Drought Dashboard shows short-term drought conditions in Arizona from 2000 to present. Use this interactive tool to explore drought conditions for the entire period or for specific time frames; for the whole state or for a selected county. Click here for the Interactive Drought Dashboard Instructions.

U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) maps were used to create this Interactive Drought Dashboard. The USDM produces weekly maps and data that show the spatial distribution of drought status in the U.S. When creating each map, USDM experts synthesize the best available climatologic, agricultural and hydrologic data and work with local participants to incorporate on-the-ground observations.

The Interactive Drought Dashboard will be updated on a monthly basis. Source data, graph information and drought level definitions can be found below the dashboard.

Graphs

The donut-shaped graph, to the right of the Arizona map, shows the average percentage of each drought level from 2000 to present. The bar chart, to the right of the donut-shaped graph, shows the average percentage of each drought level by year from 2000 to present. The time-series graph on the bottom of the dashboard shows weekly drought levels in square miles for the state. By adjusting the sliding bar, a specific time frame can be chosen and the three graphs will adjust accordingly.

The drop-down menu on the top right corner can be used to filter by drought level and the three graphs will adjust accordingly, this can also be done by clicking on the drought level color on the donut-shaped graph or the bar chart.

DROUGHT LEVEL DEFINITIONS

None - No dry or drought conditions.

D0 - Abnormally dry conditions are characterized by short-term dryness that may slow planting, growth of crops or pastures.

D1 - Moderate drought conditions may cause the development of water shortages and fire activity to increase.

D2 - Severe drought conditions may lead to large surface water levels dropping and crop/pasture losses.

D3 - Extreme drought conditions may lead to widespread water shortages and major crop/pasture losses.

D4 - Exceptional drought conditions are characterized by shortages of water in reservoirs, streams, and wells as well as high wildfire counts and exceptional and widespread crop/pasture losses.
